An exhibition at the »Galerie am Bollwerk« in Neuruppin.
The »Galerie am Bollwerk« shows Theodor Fontane’s residential locations and venues, especially in Neuruppin and Berlin, but also in the state of Brandenburg, in the juxtaposition of then and now. Photos, sketches, historical plans and the literary description depict the author’s concrete living environment and urban living conditions. The large city of Berlin is the cultural center and stage for Fontane, but is hardly discussed in his texts and works. These relate primarily to civil society and life in rural or provincial areas. Fontane’s origins and growing up in the province, his intensive occupation with rural places and the local social conditions in large parts of his work – and the parallel changes due to the Industrial Revolution with urban growth and completely new working and living conditions are to be approached side by side and thus discussion will be made. The exhibition corresponds to the planned notification system in the city and complements the leading exhibition fontane.200/author in the Museum Neuruppin.
