Permanent exhibition on the encounters between father and son.

As one of the few remaining authentic places, the Fontanehaus in Schiffmühle 2019 has a special significance. In order to make the meeting of Theodor Fontane with his father Henri come alive for the visitor, Schiffmühle will create an updated, contemporary permanent exhibition. Built around 1800, this small half-timbered house, where Louis Henri Fontane lived with a housekeeper for the last twelve years until his death in 1867, is a meeting place between father and son in Fontane’s autobiographical novel »Meine Kinderjahre« (My childhood years). In the intimacy of the modest premises, the relationship between father and son becomes comprehensible and opens up another perspective on the most well-known Markish poet and writer Theodor Fontane.
